Project 1:Contexture Study Sketch Journal Of Traditional Street

BRIEF

For this assessment, we are required to conduct an in-depth exploration of a traditional street, focusing on its architectural, cultural, and social elements. The project involves a detailed site visit, where we will document the street's physical features, such as architectural styles, through photographs and observations. Additionally, we will delve into the local lifestyle and cuisine, noting community activities and traditional food practices. Researching the street's historical background will provide insights into its origins, development, and cultural importance. We will also examine local businesses to understand their influence on the street's economy and social dynamics. Our findings will be recorded in a sketch journal that integrates visual sketches with written notes and insights. The written summary will offer a basic overview of the street's history and socio-cultural relevance, emphasizing key features and any negative aspects observed. The project aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of the street's physical and cultural characteristics, produce a well-organized sketch journal, and enhance our ability to critically analyze the street's historical and cultural context, highlighting how traditional streets contribute to and reflect local identities and experiences.

Reflection

Through this project, I had the opportunity to walk through a traditional street that embodies both the tangible and intangible aspects of traditional architecture. By studying Petaling Street, I gained a deeper understanding of how history profoundly influences our culture, social context, and architectural practices. This experience has highlighted the importance of preserving historical elements as they play a crucial role in shaping our built environment and cultural identity. It was a valuable reflection on the interconnectedness of our past and present, emphasizing the need to appreciate and maintain our cultural heritage.
